Ship’s first visit to port
The paper-carrying ship Tasman Enterprise will make her first call to Lyttelton tomorrow. She is the sister ship to the Tasman Venture, which made her first call to Lyttelton last month. Both vessels are run by Tasman Pulp and Paper. Ltd. They used to sail only the Tasman run carrying pulp, paper and timber to most of Australia's big ports. However, with the falloff of the Tasman trade, the company has put them on a coastal and Tasman run. The venture impressed last month with the efficiency with which her cargo of 2300 tonnes of newsprint was unloaded. The 5578-ton Enterprise is arriving from Tauranga. and is expected to work at port until Wednesday when she will return to Tauranga. She is carrying 2000 tonnes of newsprint. The ships are expected to call at Lyttelton about 10 times a year. Sulphur was unloaded' in record time from a phosphate ship> the Star Castor, which sailed for Bluff yesterday. From 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Thursday, six crane gangs handled 5096 tonnes of bulk sulphur. This breaks the previous record by 300 tonnes.
