Waihi seeks licence
The Waihi Gold Company, currently prospecting at Martha Hills. Waihi. is advertising for a project manager to advance the company's mining licence application programme. The company's project manager during the prospecting phase. Mr M. L. Baker, will resign from the project next month after completing a 72 hole drilling programme. The results of the three year exploration indicated acceptable grades of gold
and silver in mineralised material at Martha Hill, and late last year the Waihi Gold Company (a joint venture of Amax Exploration (N.Z.) Inc. Mineral Resources (N.Z.) Ltd. Green and McCahill Mining. Ltd. and N.Z. United Corporation. Ltd) announced its intention to seek a nining licence. The company believes that the open pit part of the mine could earn $5OO million in foreign exchange over its 1113 year life at today's gold
prices. Mr Baker says he intends remaining in New Zealand and will be participating in another mining venture. "The exploration phase, under Mr Bakers management. has been highly successful and very professionally managed." said a spokesman for Waihi Gold. Mr D. M. Graham. "We are pleased he intends remaining in New Zealand. The country wil benefit from his expertise."
