Strike over jobs level
PA Auckland Staff at the Penrose depot of Daily Freightways struck yesterday in support of a demand for a guaranteed manning level. The Storemen and Packers’ Union said that it wanted a guarantee of 69 jobs, the number now employed at the site.
The general manager of the forwarding division of Daily Freightways. Mr Alan Richards, said that no such guarantee could be given. He said that in future there might not be enough freight moving through the yard to justify employing 69 men. The men will meet today to consider their position.
