Another Story wins at Riccarton

By

W R. CARSTON

Another Story, whose class carried her to four victories, including the C.J.C. Breeders' Stakes as a five-year-old two seasons back, improved on a bleak patch of form this time round with an all-the-way win in the Godavari "1600" at the Riccarton Turf Club's on-eourse totalisator meeting at Riccarton yesterday.

Without even being asked for a serious effort from Tane Matthews in the last 200 metres Mrs A. L. Wells' Regent's Tale mare coasted to the finish with a length and a quarter on Hebei Star, which had shared the chase after her to the straight. . Sovereign's Will, which had the inside running alongside Rebel Star, lost third to the favourite. Timax. six

placings off the pace beginning the run home, in the last few strides. The rest, all soundly beaten, were led in by Scotch Dream, which failed to quicken after being in touch with the pace around the home turn. Another Story was the second of two winners saddled by Barry Taggart at the meeting. His stable was also represented successfully by Grey Van. which won the highweight at odds of almost 13-to-one. The victories of Latinity, tn the two-year-old event, Astral Row, in the Dulux Handicap, and Lord Of The Dance, in the Sir Bart "2000." were pretty predictable and it did not surprise anyone that Kowhai Gold, after several close but unsuccessful attempts, broke through for

his first victory in the first o! three maiden events. Grey Sapphire and Lady Beebee were successful, both at fairly short odds, in the other maiden events but there probably had to be a turn-up on the day and it came, with a wollop for patrons except the lucky few. when Legalize came out best in the final event and returned his win supporters odds of 331-to-one. Legalize, which carries the colours of his trainer. Dick Jennings and his wife. Dorothy. gave the Riccarton apprentice. Sherylee Boyce, her first winning ride. The turnover for the meeting totalled $125,698. This was up $9778 on last year's figure. Results:
