Red meat promotion sought
PA Welington Federated Farmers want the Meat Board to promote red meat on the local market.
The meat industry was losing ground to chicken, pork,- veal, and substitutes and there was growing urgency for the local promotion of red meat, said the chairman of the meat and wool section of Federated Farmers, Mr Timothy Plummer, yesterday.
“Farmers are concerned that red meat sales are lagging behind on the New Zealand market and they would like to see a producer board involvement in red meat promotion,” he said.
“Federated Farmers asked the Meat Board to become involved many months ago, but it is apparently loath to do so and maintains that the promotion of export product is a better investment."
