Ancestry register
Like a Hibernian remake of the film, “ET,” New Zealanders and Australians with Scots ancestry are being asked to “call home.” From April, descendants of Scots will be able to call in to a computerised register in Glasgow, called the Roots Centre, for help in tracing their links with Scotland.
It is all part of yet another British celebration, the “Pride of Clyde celebrations, welcome home to Glasgow, 1983,” — on which the Glaswegians plan to spend about £140,000 ($NZ298,200).
The Glasgow District Council has approached Scots or Scottish associations in 95 countries to encourage interest.
The promotion will last throughout the year.
