Lillee past it: Muldoon
PA Wellington Some of Australia’s cricketers are past it and the fast bowler, Dennis Lillee, should be out to grass, said the Prime Minister yesterday. Mr Muldoon said he had total confidence that New Zealand would win the Benson and Hedges World Series Cup finals in Australia, particularly if Richard Hadlee
was fit. “I think we can beat these blokes more often than not. They are a bit past it. I mean, poor old Lillee trudging' around there. He should be out to grass, long since.” Asked what he thought about Wednesday night’s result, when Australia won a rain-curtailed match, he said: “These Australians make up the rules as they go along.”
