Rascal shows dash in Hastings trial
Special Correspondent Hastings Rascal worked well over 800 m at Hastings yesterday morning and could be an outside chance in the Highweight at Wairoa tomorrow. Rascal worked on the plough and ran a good solo 800 m in 49.95, the last 600 m in 36.75. He was striding out nicely at the finish. The entire failed over 1900 m at Rotorua last Saturday, but is a past winner on the Wairoa track and worthy of respect tomorrow. Mr Flash sprinted a smart 600 m on his own in 37.45. He has been working well for some time and contests the Nuhaka Maiden at Wairoa.
The apprentice, Garry Williams, has the mount. Legitimate was always well clear of His Sister in their 800 m workout. Legitimate was clocked at 49.45, the last 600 m in’37s, while His Sister ran the same distance in about 53.55. His Sister is a lazy worker on the track, but has the ability to show up in the last race at Wairoa. Purple Cap. worked in from the 1000 m peg on the plough jn Imin 6.85, the last 600 m in 37.8 s while Toltec ran an easy 600 on the course proper in 38s. Purple Cap is a younger brother of the New Zealand Cup winner, Gold Bullion, and is being trained by Marlene Todd.
