Weather sets records
Several weather records were noted at Lincoln College in 1982. Only 310 mm of rain fell between November, 1981, and September, 1982, the lowest rainfall <• recorded for an equivalent period since 1896-97, - The total, for the year was boosted to 495.5 mm by the rainfall for the rest of the year. The total was still 25 per cent below average. . A.;record for evaporation . was set last February when the rate of land evaporation was pleasured at 256,9 mm..— .This was the highest record-., ling made since weather ob-.‘ servations began at the college in 1945. The monthly mean maiti-
mum temperature was the highest measured since 1893. August ■* was a sunny month, because of anticyclones, but was also the trostiest month of the year, with 20 ground frosts. November saw the record average wind speed equalled with a speed of 5.1 metres a second. The highest maximum temperature recorded for the year, 37deg. C was on February 15, anithe lowest minimum temperature. ? ; was —4.4 deg., on June 18 ■ • Tlie. dry weather continued into January of this year. The highest maximum temperature for last month was 32deg. and the lowest minimum temperature, 3.sdeg.
