Water polo titles

Canterbury seems a likely winner of the national provincial water polo championship even after only one day at Queen Elizabeth II Park? but it is making a difficult job of it. A Wellington team which had given one of its most mediocre displays of recent years in beating Combined Services by a mere goal, succumbed to Canterbury in the evening match. 8-10; but even allowing for Canterbury facing a big fouls count of 16-2 against it. the local side still gave a mediocre performance. The mens B grade and the womens competition appear fairly well balanced though the chances of the title-holder in the B grade. Wanganui, took a tumble. Although of similar standard to the two Canterbury teams, it lost to both. The superior skills and long experience of some of the Canterbury A team paved the way for a ’narrow win. while the Canterbury B team triumphed after Wanganui had to play two-thirds of the game a man short. The womens competition is still in a slate of flux. Canterbury B running Wellington to three goals, while the latter side was held to a draw by Canterbury in a goal-for-goal' struggle.
