Pitch may hold key
The pitch could well hold the key in the second “test" between the New Zealand and Australian women's under 25 teams which starts at Hagley Park today. In the first three-day match in Palmerston North last week the game was dominated by batswomen on a true pitch. The Hagley Park pitch is likely to be little different to that in Palmerston North, and it will depend on the fast and fast-medium bowling batteries of each side, if a result is
to be achieved. The Australians are well served in this department by Lynlev Hamilton, Jenny Owens. Karen Brown and Leonie Callaghan. New Zealand too. has a useful medium-pace attack, lead by the Canterbury bowler Sue Brown and supported by Liz Signal. Mary Connell and Shona Gilchrist. Both teams have well balanced batting line-ups. with the Australians probably having the edge because of their greater ratio of allrounders.
