Opportunists
NZPA New York Some New York youths are earning up to $lOO a day sucking tokens out of subway turnstiles and then reselling them, the police say. When a token is deposited in the turnstile slot it falls about scm and sits on a lever until the passenger passes through. The youths simply suck out
the tokens before they can fall. In a bid to deter one group of children a token clerk sprinkled chili powder into a slot, according to a Transit Authority spokesman. "The kids came back with a bucket of water, threw some water on the turnstile and the rest at the token clerk." he said.
