P.M.’s Indonesian trip ‘working visit’
NZPA Jakarta The principal Indonesian daily newspaper. ."Kompas", has said in an editorial that the "working visit" of New Zealand's Prime Minister. Mr Muldoon, "means that he and President Suharto will have more time to discuss the two countries' relationship and co-operation.” It said emphasis will be on discussions about co-opera-tion between the two countries rather than on ceremonies.
Mr Muldoon, on his third visit to Indonesia, has attended the opening of a
geothermal electric power
plant at Kamojang. West Java, that was developed with New Zealand's assistance over the last decade, the newspaper said. "What the two countries can do together from now on. is co-operate in the education. training and technology through which Indonesia can accelerate to expand development of its agricultural sector." the newspaper said. Indonesia's modernisation in this area is aimed at meeting domestic demand and stepping up the living standard of the farmers, it said. "Kompas" said Indonesia has the ability to handle its growing population through economic and social development. In return, it can become a stronger friend for New Zealand in the area of security.
