Dance duo at Art Gallery
A dance lecture and demonstration by a touring two-member dance team will be presented at the Robert McDougall Art Gallery tomorrow at 6.30 p.m. The team consists of Jennifer De Leon, a professional creative dancer and dance teacher from Wellington, and Joanne Petroff, the co-director and leading artist with “Whistlestop”, an improvisational dance company from Seattle. Last month, the two dancers took part in an intensive dance workshop in Auckland, conducted by Miss Juliet Fischer of the London
Contemporary Dance Company. Jennifer De Leon is a creative modern dancer, whose choreography work has been performed in England, Canada, and the United States. Before her last overseas tour, she taught at the New Zealand National School of Dance. More recently, she has returned from ’ three months study and work with “Entracte", a mime-dance company in Sydney. At present, she teaches at the New Zealand Actors' Theatre Studio, and gives community and private
classes. Joanne Petroff has performed with groups in Seattle. San Francisco and Vancouver. One of Washington State's leading choreographers, she has also initiated dance programmes for the disabled. At present, she teaches at the Seattle Community College. and gives workshops and lecture demonstrations in conjunction with performances by the “Whistlestop" Company. Admission to the team's lecture and demonstration is $B. Bookings can be made at the Art Gallerv.
