Millionaires’ coast hit as storms lash U.S.
NZPA-Reuter Los Angeles Winds of up to 112 km/h and heavy rains hit the “millionaires’ coast line” of California again yesterday, raising the number of deaths attributed to storms to 12, reported the police. More than 2250 houses, including the. beach-front ‘ residences of film stars, have
been destroyed or damaged in four storms which have hit the 1600 km coast-line this week. Seventeen people have . been injured in storm-related accidents, and the cost of the damage has risen to well over SUSIOO million (SNZI39 million). Owners and an army of volunteers shovelling mud
and sand from homes along the sea-front were battered again yesterday by gale . force winds and heavy rain. The winds knocked down power lines and uprooted trees, sent 30 metres of a pier at Paradise Cove, on the northern outskirts of Los Angeles, crashing into the Pacific, and blocked highways with mudslides.
