Mum doesn’t love me any more, says bomber
NZPA-Reuter Orlando, Florida A man claiming to have a bomb in a flight bag surrendered to the police at Orlando international airport yesterday about four hours after he had threatened to blow up the main terminal building. About 500 people were evacuated from the terminal and outgoing flights were suspended as the man perched on a plant stand beside a fourth-floor restaurant overlooking the main
concourse. It was not immediately known if his blue flight bag actually contained an explosive device. An airport source said that the unidentified man, in his 20s, was upset because, he said, his mother “didn’t love him any more.” Aeroplanes continued to land at the airport throughout the incident. But about 1500 incoming passengers were ordered to remain in lounges instead of
proceeding to the main terminal area, said an airport spokeswoman. The airport executive director, Mr Jack Gillooly, said that the first hint of trouble came when a duty officer in the communications centre received a call from a public telejphone in the restaurant area from a man who said that he wanted to talk to the police. An officer met the man, who said that he had a bomb in his bag and threatened to explode it.
