Reagan trails—poll

President Ronald Reagan would be soundly beaten by either Democratic Party challenger, John Glenn or Walter Mondale, if a Presidential election were held now, the latest Gallup Institute poll has shown. In the first poll taken since Senator Edward Kennedy announced he was not a Democratic Party candidate for the Presidency in 1984, Senator Glenn (Ohio) is the favoured alternative. In a Presidential run-off he would receive 54 per cent of the votes against Mr Reagan's 39 per cent, with 7 per cent undecided. In the event of a Mondale-Reagan run-off. the former Vice-President under Jimmy Carter would receive 52 per cent of votes against Mr Reagan's 40 per cent, with 8 per cent undecided. Mr Reagan has refused to say whether he will run for another Presidential term in 1984—Washington
