Dame Kiri not expected back before 1985
PA Auckland Dame Kiri Te Kanawa says she is unlikely to return to New Zealand to sing until 1985. "The renowned soprano left Auckland for Los Angeles on Saturday evening after two concerts last week to raise funds for the Aotea Centre for the Performing Arts. She will spend three months in New York before returning to London. • The chairman of the Aotea Centre Trust, Mr Allan Dum-
bleton, said yesterday that Dame Kiri had made it clear she would return to sing in support of the centre when her schedule allowed. “There is nothing definite, but the earliest possible date for another concert is 1985,” he said. Mr Dumbleton said that an international festival to raise funds for the $3O million centre was planned for this year. The festival would be held in Wellington and Christchurch, and perhaps Auckland.
Mr Dumbleton said plans for the festival were tentative, but Dame Kiri had offered help to engage international artists.
