Cleaver threat alleged
A police dog was sent into heavy bush on the trail of a man in the Waimakariri Gorge yesterday afternoon, after a motor-cyclist allegedly- brandished a meat cleaver at a traffic officer. ~ A Ministry of Transport officer stopped the motorcyclist on State - highway 72 near the gorge bridge about 4 p.m. After a heated discussion the motor-cyclist allegedly pulled the cleaver from his
pack and threatened the traffic officer. The traffic officer withdrew and called the police. A dog and handler followed the man into the bush but lost his trail. A man was apprehened about 9 p.m. walking along the road not far from where the incident occurred, He will appear in the District Court at Rangiora next week charged with using threatening language.
