Fireman fell from truck
A volunteer fireman hurt in an accident in Christchurch early on New Year’s Day was injured when he fell from the back of a private truck on his way to the fire station to answer a call, the Fire Service said yesterday. It was originally reported that the man had been hurt in a fall from a fire engine.
The fireman, a member ol the Sumner Volunteer Fire Brigade, suffered minor head injuries and was treated at Burwood Hospital and discharged. A Fire Service spokesman said that. the service had strict safety rules, and no one was allowed to ride on the back of a fire engine.
