Singapore post for brigadier
PA Wellington Brigadier lan Burrows has been appointed commander of the New Zealand Force, South-East Asia, based in Singapore. He will take up the post on January 15, succeeding Air Commodore Michael Palmer.
Until recently commander of land operations at New Zealand Land Forces Headquarters, Takapuna, Brigadier Burrows served with the first Special Air Service Squadron in the Malayan emergency for two years, where he’ won the Military Cross and a Malayan medal, the Negri Semilan.
He also saw active service between 1964 and 1966 in
Malaya and Borneo. Brigadier Burrows has since held a variety of command, staff, and training appointments. Brigadier Geoffrey Hitchings will succeed Brigadier Burrows at Takapuna. Brigadier Hitchings has also seen active service in Asia. He commanded 161 Battery. 16 Field Regiment in South Vietnam in 1968, which service resulted in his being awarded the M.B.E. Before begin posted to Takapuna this year, Brigadier Hitchings was Assistant Chief of Defence Staff, operations and plans, at Defence Headquarters, Wellington.
