Borg repels challenge
NZPA Sydney Bjorn Borg held off a surprisingly strong challenge from a Frenchman, Henri Leconte, 6-2, 6-7. 6-1 in the $NZ345,000 Lite Challenge of Champions tournament in Chicago. The 19-year-old Leconte, a member of the French Davis Cup team, put pressure on
Borg in the second set before losing it on a tie-breaker. Borg, who is trying to regain his form, played somewhat unsteadily, but maintained his concentration. Earlier, the defending champion, Jimmy Connors, consistently pressured Vitas Gerulaitis enroute to a 6-1. 64. victory.
