Speculation strong chance in Pahiatua Cup

After his good run in the Manawatu Cup, the Manakau gelding, speculation, could improve enough to win the Pahiatua Cup, the first leg of the T.A.B. double at the Pahiatua . Racing Club’s meeting at Woodville tomorrow.

Speculation ran a good race to get third in the President’s Handicap and then fought hard to get fourth in the cup there a week ago, losing third right on the line.

The field for the cup is not large, but it has plenty of quality, helped by the presence of the Cambridge mare, Elmar.

She won both the King’s and Clifford Plates at Ellerslie during the cup carnival there and her weight of 57 is the weight-for-age impost she carried so well to win the Clifford. Lone Hand, at 10, could cause problems. He won a couple in the spring, and had no luck at all in the running.

Peak is in rare form. He was third in the Manawatu Cup and after bounced back to win the Wairarapa Cup. Crackapon ran a fair race to get fourth in the Clifford Plate. She is a good mare, quite well off at the weights. SELECTIONS
