Busy evening for Fire Service

Firemen were kept busy in Christchurch last evening answering numerous calls, especially during the electrical storm, but most were false alarms. Twelve calls were received by the Fire Service between 5'50 p.m. and 9.30 p.m.. five pf them coming within five minutes during the downpour that followed the storm. One. at 5.51 p.m.. was to a kitchen fire at 108 Perry Street. Papanui. and was attended by two engines, from

St Albans and Harewood. Minor damage was caused to the house after the fire spread from the kitchen to the roof. A unit from the Central station attended a rubbish fire in Linwood Avenue. The fire had been lit in a back yard rubbish pile during the closed fire season. It was put out by firemen. Moderate damage was caused in a kitchen fire at 208 Springfield Road, St Albans, at 7.55 p.m. Two engines attended the blaze.
