Art works net $4.5M
NZPA Paris Paintings and sculptures from the collection of the late Aime and Marguerite Maeght have earned 23.6 million francs ($4.5 million) for the couple's heirs at an auction in Paris. Pablo Picasso’s daughter, Paloma. was among the spectators. Fernand Leger's canvas, "La Belle Cycliste," drew the highest price of the evening. 2.75 million francs (about $556,000). A 1943 Braque still life brought 2.2 million francs. A 1927 Kandinsky fetched 1.9 million francs.
The surprise of the evening was Giacometti. All his portraits and bronzes drew higher prices than ever before.
