Japanese optimistic on investment
PA Wellington The head of a Japanese Government mission said in Auckland yesterday that he believed the climate for investment in New Zealand was “fairly good.” After a meeting with Auckland/'businessmen. Mr Taiicmro Matsuo, said that his 24-member mission had received a warm welcome from the Government and private enterprise. • “My general impression'is that the investment environment here is fairly good,” he said.-. The mission has made a three-day survey of the environment for Japanese investment in New Zealand. It will report to Japan’s Ministry of International Trade and Industry • on its return. Mr Matsuo; . who is chairman. of the Marubeni Corporation, said that New Zealand companies were small and; the ‘ market limited. Any Japanese investment in New Zealand would have to take account of the export opportunities to; other countries. The. mission's investiga-
tion. he said; should lead to greater investment in New Zealand. He had had apprehension about industrial relations “but it is probably better than I expected." The mission arrived in Wellington on Wednesday after spending 10 days in' Australia
