Kiwifruit plantings up
Kiwifruit plantings increased by 42.8 per cent in the year ended October 31, 1981.
Figures released by the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries show that in terms of land area, kiwifruit is now New Zealand’s largest horticultural crop. All kiwifruit-growing areas registered increases, ranging from 20 per cent in Marlborough, to 202 per cent in
Other areas recording large increases were tiie Waikato (172.9 per cent), Nelson (90.4 per cent) and Auckland (60.5 per cent). Nationally, both passionfruit (up 35 per cent) and avocados (up 50 per cent) also registered large increases.
