Australian on Weinmeister

By J. J. BOYLE The successful Sydney apprentice. Stephen Jefferies, will ride Weinmeister in the Kettle Memorial, first leg ol the Greymouth Jockey Club's T.A.B. double tomorrow. He replaces Jim Collett, who will not ride at the Greymouth meeting. Jefferies arrived in Christchurch on Thursday and inspected the track at Riccarton yesterday. After an examination oi the towering Cutts’s brush he did not sound interested in applying his skills to a career as a jumping rider. Jefferies, who has ridden 97 winners, has come to New Zealand on invitation to ride in a special race for apprentices on the second day of the Greymouth meeting on Monday.

He would have welcomed the chance to ride work at Riccarton yesterday, but there were no opportunities offering. Weinmeister, his mount in the main race tomorrow, travelled yesterday with Treacle and Kamora. other members of Peter Jones's team.
