Eye-catching run by Lover Boy

Special correspondent Greymouth In a quiet morning at the Omoto track yesterday many gallopers were given only light assignments in preparation, for the week-end racing. The track was surprisingly firm and given fine weather it will be in splendid condition for tomorrow. Lover Boy, which may be tried in a hood later at the meeting was three lenghts in advance of Crystal Eyes at the end of 800 in 50.65. The pre-race favourite for the Shantytown Stakes, Huny Bug, was a length in arrears of Cloud Dancer, a likely looking maiden from John

Healey’s team, ending 600 m in 39.85. The final 400 took 26.65. A local maiden, Free Turn, galloped well to beat Miss Coaster comfortably over 800 in 50.25. Free Turn was eliminated from the first-day fields after disappointing at Westland. Bilberry worked solo over 1200 m quickening from the 800 in 51s. The Tom Lalor-trained Midnight Cowboy and Yukon Lass pleased in running the final 600 of their work in 42s after kicking off from the 1200 m peg. Yukon Lass has not settled on her first trip away from

home but brings winning trial form to the ShantytownStakes. The stablemates, Asterisk and Accelerate, worked late in the morning. They ran 800 m in 53.25. Accelerate looks well and should make it two in a row tomorrow. Other gallops timed for 800 m were: Flying Milley, in 545; Aqua Flight, in 535; Wadi Wahid, in 525; Alvina’s Beau, in 535; Kinios, in 55s and Pauroa Hoa in 535. Synroc and Fameson ran 600 m together in 41s; Beau Jet and Honourette, were paired for a similar task and Lampray took 39.65.
