Marathon to N.Z. man
PA Wellington A New Zealander, Peter Lee, of Wainuiomata, has beaten 4000 runners to win the Lake Kawaguchi marathon in Japan. Lee’s wife, Mary, said she had received a call from her husband, saying he won the race in 2hr 24min 9s, finish-
ing a minute ahead of his nearest rival. “The time was slower than he had hoped for but he was pleased all the same,” Mrs Lee said. Lee, who ran his first marathon in 1977, earned the trip to Japan by winning this year’s Fletcher Challenge marathon in Rotorua.
