Mikkola tightens grip
NZPA-Reuter York, England Hannu Mikkola, of Finland, tightened his grip on the Royal Automobile Club (R.A.C.) British motor rally yesterday. With only four stages completed after the overnight compulsory rest halt in York, the works Audi Quattro driver had extended his lead to almost five minutes. His team-mate, Harald Demuth, of West Germany, improved from fourth to second over-all as the 99
surviving cars battled through the slippery rainslicked sections in NorthEast England. A Finn, Henri Toivonen, winner of the 2900 km world championship test two years ago, lost ground in his Opel Ascona 400 because the Quattros of the three-times winner, Mikkola, and the West German champion, Demuth, seemed much better suited to the conditions. He dropped from second to third, 20 seconds behind Demuth;
