Call for dam report

PA Wellington The anti-Clyde dam movement, Friends of the Clutha, has called on the Government to release to the public a report prepared by the D.S.I.R. on the earthquake risks associated with the dam.

The Friends’ chairman, Mr Paul Powell, said that the Government’s failure to release the report amounted to a “cover-up and censorship.” Dam critics have asserted that the dam is being built on a geological fault and could be unstable in the event of an earthquake. The D.S.I.R. has prepared a full report, but the Minister of Works, Mr Friedlander, has in the past indicated that it will not b e released in full.
