Farmer to fill vacancy
A Kaituna Valley farmer, Mr K. G. Gillanders, will probably become the new Kaituna Riding representative on the Wairewa County Council. He accepted a council invitation yesterday tq fill the extraordinary vacancy left by the death of Mr G. L. Cooper last month. The last formality required is. to advertise the appointment to give ratepayers an opportunity to Object. Mr Gillanders, aged 43, was an unsuccessful candidate for the two Kaituna Riding seats in the last local
body elections. He is a member of the Motukarara Domain Board and a past pregident of the Banks Peninsular Agricultural and <.. Pastoral Association. i At the council’s monthly meeting’/; councillors paid tribute (p the late ’Mr Cooper, another Kaituna farmer, who served two years on the council. He was chairman o\ the Ataahua Domain Board and an active member of \ the Waihora Pony Club. Mr Cooper, who was aged 45, is survived by his wife and two children.
