Hogget wool in demand
PA Napier Fine hogget wool was 2Vz K;r cent dearer at the apier wool sale yesterday, compared with the Napier sale on November 4, according to the official report. Medium and coarser fleece was firm, long second-shear slightly cheaper, and other second-shear wools unchanged. Competition was widespread, and buyers with orders for China and the Middle East dominated the hogget-wool sales. New Zealand carpet mills were active for coarser fleece and second-shear. Well grown, sound wool with yields 3 to 4 per cent lower than last season was a feature of the 30,082-bale offering. A small offering of lambs wool sold well considering its length. The Wool Board bid on 10.3 per cent of the offering and had 1.7 per cent passed to it. The adjusted weighted average sale price was 254.33 c a kilogram. Based on this, a Government supplementary payment of 25.8 per cent wil apply to all wool sold at the sale and all wool sold privately from midnight, November 18 to midniight, November 24. The market indicator was 246 c.
