Clash over film industry

PA Wellington A Labour member of Parliament, Mr J. J. Terris, and the Minister for the Arts, Mr Highet, disagreed on the future of the New Zealand film industry last evening. Mr Terris, speaking during a debate in Parliament on the estimates for the Internal Affairs Department, said that the industry could disappear into obscurity because of Government poli-

cies. He was critical of the $5 million grant to the Film Commission being reduced over a period of five years. Film industry benefits included providing 1000 jobs and $4 million into the economy last year, he said. Mr Highet however, said that the industry would not die. It was flourishing and going from strength to strength.
