Rodgers crosses line
PA Dunedin , A hungry Paul Rodgers on his 17.07 m schooner Spirit of Pentax has arrived in Cape Town after being without food for the last three days of his voyage. Rodgers, aged 37. crossed the finishing line late on Tuesday night, to complete the first leg of the solo round-the-world race.
He was in sight of the finish line for more than seven hours and battled against a south-easterly wind which at times gusted up to 65 knots before he finally crossed. During this time he had to endure the frustration of watching a Frenchman, Jacques de Roux, sail past to finish four hours ahead of him.
