Speech contest
A former Christchurch girl gained second place in a national speech contest in Gisborne recently. Tania Wehi lived for five years in Christchurch and two years at Twizel. Now aged 16 she lives at Ranfurly. and is a fifth-fdrm Sil at Maniototo Area 001.
The Korimako speech contest is held annually. It is sponsored by the Maori Education Foundation and the Post-Primary Teachers' Association. Entrants from each region present a prepared speech and an impromptu one. Tania Wehi won a trophy, a carved box, and a book token. Kara Shortland. of Wairarapa College, won the contest.
