Pylon study ready soon

The Christchurch City Council's independent power pylon study for the eastern suburbs might be finished by the end of January. As well, the withdrawal of an Electricity Division requirement for a Marshland sub-station on the proposed Bromley-Eyreton transmission line means that it would now take longer to start such a project.

The public utilities committee has been told that an Auckland consulting firm would need $23,250 to conduct the study of whether such a line is needed to provide more security of power supply for eastern Christchurch.

Kingston. Reynolds, Thom, and Allardice ' submitted a cost estimate.

The consultants will meet members of the public who have criticised the transmission line proposal.

Cr Rex Lester, the committee chairman, said the consultants' study would be "their report, and nobody else's." They already had Municipal Electricity Department and Electricity Division background reports, and the M.E.D. would answer any questions. if the independent review resulted in another City Council request for improved security or new supply points.’the Electricity Division would subject the request to "normal technical and economic evaluation" said the district manager. Mr W. D. Sprv. in a letter to the M.E.D.
