President’s press conference

Sir, — To say that the letter from the Pompano Beach lady is critical of Mr Chesshyre and “The Press," is the understatement so far, of our visit to your lovely land. It is too bad that she thinks you have treated Mr Reagan unfairly but she must know that even his own staff are well aware of his tendency to mis-speak. In a larger sense some see this same tendency in evidence in his economic philosophy which asserts that the current bad conditions stem from a half century of muddled and misguided thinking by our leaders, from F.D.R. to the present. Many of us regard these years as good, even great, ones with

some exceptions in our history, and it is sad to have them characterised otherwise. Surely if Mr Reagan reads our history this way then as Mr Chesshyre reports mis-statements do happen. It does give one a sense of disquiet doesn’t it? — Yours, etc..
