Offer by M.P.

Sir,—l thank Mr Burdon for replying to parts of my letter (October 25). However, I regret that he saw fit to continue politicking for. much of his reply and did not tell us how he was making out with the family budget. Discussion of “moral courage” of politicians is analogous to discussion of the I.Q. of a paralysed flea. An important point that eludes Mr Burdon is that. his. $3252 tax relief seems somewhat excessive reward for “effort and initiative” relative to the $7OO odd for an earner of $12,000 and positively scandalous beside the $6OO increase in tax for a two x $lO,OOO income household. I suggest that either of the above householders could be excused for giving up

on the "effort and initiative" bit. I can state categorically as a lower paid earner that the Budget’s provision will not preserve our living standards as Mr Burdon claims.—Yours, etc.,

JOHN SUMMERS (Jun.). October 26, 1982.
