U.S.-owned filly for International
NZPA-Reuter Laurel Maryland Friendswood, a three-year-old filly bred and owned by the Texan multi-millionaire, Nelson Bunker Hunt, will represent Italy in the Washington International on
November 6, Laurel racecourse officials have said.
Acceptance of the invitation raises to 10 the prospective starters for the $U5250,000 one-and-a-half mile race.
Other entries are Majesty’s Prince, Runaway Goose, Thunder Puddles, Half Iced, Naskra's Breeze and Sprink, all from the United States, England’s Awaasif, April Run - from France and Sweden’s Humbug. Friendswood recently won the Gran Premio del Jockey Club, Italy’s richest race. Sandy Hawley, who has ridden two previous Washington
International winners, will be in the saddle on November 6. United States entries have won the race 15 times, France 10, England two and Venezuela, Australia and Ireland one each.
