Shipping news

' When the coastal trader Onehunga sails south to Lyttelton this week-end she will be partly on a rescue mission.

She will carry 700 bales of hay for Canterbury farmers whose feed output has been affected by the drought. Coastal Shipping, Ltd. provided free space on the Onehunga for the hay, which was given by Taranaki farmers. Watersiders at New Plymouth will provide free labour- to load the hay and the Taranaki Harbour Board has waived charges for the Onehunga. Mr Richard Sturton, South Island manager of Coastal Shipping. -said yesterday that the Lyttelton Harbour Board had also agreed to waive port charges for the ship. He would be in touch with Lyttelton watersiders about unloading her. Coastal Shipping had offered to ship the hay to Lyttelton and Timaru, from where Federated Farmers would organise its distribution. The hay will probably be unloaded on Monday November 1. • * « • South-west. weather yesterday ■ afternoon stopped work on ships berthed at Lyttelton.
