Learning about dieting

Christchurch dietitians who are running the Dial-A-Dietitian service, have invited representatives from 60 local community groups to attend a meeting on November 3 to learn more about the service. The secretary of the service, Mrs B. Crooks, said last evening that the meeting at the Christchurch Clinical School, would be attended by a number of dietitians. They would mingle with the guests and answer ques-

tions about the service as well as explain its purpose. About 50 dietitians share the telephone roster for the service, which has been running in Christchurch for the last three years. However, the service has become a 24hour one only lyAbout 12 inquiries a week are received from people wanting . anything from slimming ideas to budget foods. .

Other problems answered by the dietitians include planning adequate family meals; buying, storing, and handling foods; special food needs of teen-agers, children, or old people; calories, food fads, and fallacies; food labelling or food additives; preparing and cooking new convenience foods; diet and heart disease; and dieting to lose weight.
