Scintillating display
NZPA-Reuter Zagreb, Yugoslavia A Chinese gymnast, Li Ning, won five gold medals on the final day of the World Gymnastics Cup in Zagreb yesterday, but said his scintillating display was just a start. Li. who won the individual combined event two days ago, scored higher marks than anyone in previous world cups and allowed only one event to slip from his grasp. Upstaged rivals from the Soviet Union, traditional winners of the competition, said that Li’s performance was "nearly perfect in ele-
gance, speed, and precision.” “This is only the beginning for us. We saw our mistakes and weak spots here. We will correct them' and be even better at the world championships and the Olympic Games,” said the 19-year-old Li. The only title to elude Li was the parallel bars, won by Yuri Korolev, of the soviet Union, in which the Chinese gymnast had to settle for a bronze. Li won the floor exercises, pommel horse and horse vault outright and shared the rings title with Korolev and the horizontal bars with his compatriot, Tong Fei.
