Sir,—Now that our servile Government, having gone cap in hand to yet another transnational organisation to suffer yet another rejection, and the growth strategy miracle proved to be a mirage, what now is proposed? As I understand basic economics I would calculate the finance borrowed on “favourable" terms of 8 per cent to 10 per cent plus inflation, conservatively at 16 per cent compounding annually assumes astronomical proportions. Our markets are vanishing — so who will service this debt? The portion of the population worth caring for have been attended to in the Budget, what of the remaining majority? I would appreciate an explanation of the "secret" army and police exercises at an abandoned hospital complex. Was it to combat an expected invasion or merely a practice run to cope with possible descendants of Wat Tyler who may have entered the country and may even be bred here?—Yours, etc., ERIN E. VAN DIJK. October 21, 1982.
