Complaints over prices

Sir.—l feel that the Award for the Most Devastating Parliamentary Performance of 1982 must surely go to Mrs Ann Hercus, M.P., for her tireless work on behalf of the New Zealand consumer and her meticulous research into the often suspect background to Ministerial pronuncements. Her latest foray into the administration of the so-called price freeze deserves admiration for an immaculately presented attack on Mr Templeton, which is obviously causing that Minister acute embarrassment. The public opinion polls may show an increasing backing for David Lange M.P. in what the news media calls the Labour Party leadership battle, but those who possess more than a superficial knowledge of the capabilities of parliamentarians will not subscribe to this assessment. Capability and integrity are what the country 'needs, even if these qualities are not vote-catchers, and both Bill Rowling and Mrs Hercus have proven records in this respect.—Yours, etc., R. L. PLUCK. October 21, 1982.
