Akaroa name goes
The Akaroa Progress Association has changed its name to the Banks Peninsula Progress Associaton. The decision was made at a recent annual meeting when officers were elected to lead the group. Mr T. J. Brocherie was made patron. Dr N. Grenville elected president, and Messrs J. Corboy and G. Simes, vice-presi-dents. A committee of 12 was also elected. Mr Brocherie said that the associations name had been
changed at the request of rural members who felt that to retain the Akaroa title would be to link the group too firmly with the township. The association had a wider catchment than was originally foreseen. he said. One effect of the namechange. however, will be to delay activities. The group will have to be incorporated again, a process which might take three weeks. The committee will meet in December.
