House buyer service

PA Auckland House buyers will be able to have a prospective home checked by ' an architect under a service to be intro.duced this week. The Institute of Architects has drawn up a uniform check list and a roster of architects in most parts of New Zealand to do prepurchase assessments for $l6O.

An Auckland architect, Mr Graham Strez, said yesterday that the institute hoped to do for home-seekers what Automobile Association inspections do for prospective car buyers.

It is’intended that reports will take only two days from the time an interested purchaser lodges an application. “We do not want any sales to be held up by this,” said Mr Strez.

Applicants will get an eight-page report on the site and condition of the property. It will include considerations of privacy, outlook, and • other environmental features, the quality of services, and construction. Mr Strez said that advice on prices and values would not be given.
