Shearer scrapes home by one stroke
NZPA Sydney The Victorian golfer, Bob Shearer, held off a magnificent fighting finish by former world match-play champion Graham Marsh to win the $lOO,OOO New South Wales Open Golf championship at Manly yesterday. Shearer held on to a'oneshot victory from Marsh, finishing 12 under par for the tournament with rounds of 71, 66, 66, and 69 to collect the $lB,OOO first prize and
register his first win in Sydney since 1974. New Zealand’s John Lister carded his third successive three under par round of 68 to finish equal fifth with Roger Stephens of South Australia; Of the other New Zealanders competing, Dennis Clark also shot a 68 yesterday, his best round of the tournament, but with Simon Owen (70), Stuart Reese (73) and Peter Hamblett (72), Clark finished well back.
