Dig In appeals in Gore Cup today

Special correspondent Gore Dig In and Jim Collett appeal as a formidable combination for the $B5OO Gore Cup, first leg of the T.A.B. double on the second day of the ' Gore Racing Club’s spring meeting today. Dig In launched his four-year-old campaign bn a winning note when he beat the sprinters at the Winton meeting a fortnight ago. Beforehand, he had won a couple of barrier trials and, although he might not be as seasoned as some in the field, his undoubted class should stand to him. Dig In’s trainer, Bill Hillis, has a formidable second string to his bow in Mary Wake, which beat a weaker field with marked authority on the first day of the meeting on Saturday. Invariably, Mary Wake has raced best when fresh and deserves respect today. Black Rule, from Pat Corboy’s Washdyke team, will be trying for three on end. He could hardly have been more impressive than when he won at the Winton meeting a fortnight ago. Of the others, Myra May and Double D’Or appeal most Double D’Or was a creditable fourth against the sprinters at the Winton meeting and should be sharper for that run. “ ' Myra May was a good third at her last start at Wingatui and will handle the heavy footing which looks likely today better than most. Nottingham-Note, a stablemate of Myra May, will be the likely favourite for the Steinlager Sprint, second leg of the T.A.B. double. Retep, which will .be improved by his first day third, and Peck, a courageous winner on the first day, appeal most of the others.
